Abstract
(English)
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the possible gain, in terms of TCP goodput, obtained by optimizing the transmission parameters when the DVB-RCS standard is employed. The optimization involves a cross-layer interaction among transport, data link and physical layers. The bandwidth allocation methods we intend to use are the Generalized Proportionally Fair (GPF) [5], and the Range [5]. The former resulted to obtain a good compromise between fairness and overall goodput; the drawback of GPF is the impossibility in choosing a target fairness factor, as it is the fixed result of the optimization process. Range exhibited comparable performance with respect to GPF, but resulted more flexible, in that it allows choosing a target value of the fairness factor, which drives the optimization process instead of being the result value (as in GPF).
