Abstract
(English)
This deliverable addresses methodologies and tools for conformance testing of Web Services (WSs). The idea that pushed the project partners to investigate such domain is direct consequence of the current trend within e-learning standard bodies: such organizations have in fact started to describe e-learning systems as interactions among different services. This fact naturally raises the need for techniques to assess conformance of services implementations (WSs in particular) to the published specifications, in order to have some guarantee on their real capability of cooperating. In this document we explore the domain of Formal Testing methodologies as one promising approach to derive test suites for conformance evaluation of WS implementations. At the same time we outline how such approaches could be adapted to the specific domain of WSs conformance evaluation, in particular when their interactions are described using Protocol State Machine (PSM) diagrams as defined in the Unified Modelling Language (UML) version 2.0. Besides we report on UML-based approaches and profiles for the specification of Service Oriented Architectures, with a focus in the e-Learning domain. We provide as an example of application the Content Repository Access Service (CRAS), currently undergoing specification by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. At the current stage, we manually define a conformance statement and derive a tentative list of test requirements.
