Abstract
(English)
The paper presents a mathematical model of a digital library, seen as a set of cooperating components, allocated on the nodes of a network, collectively realizing the services for the digital library users. The model distinguishes application from data components, and clients from servers, in order to capture classical styles of architecturing distributed information systems. User requests are also modelled, to represent the demand which an allocation has to satisfy. A minimal and consistent set of constraints is presented, in order to formally characterize the feasible allocations. The model is a first step towards the design of a digital library system component able to determine an optimal allocation of services.
