Abstract
(English)
A brief description of the mechanical setup, and controland software architecture of Romeo together its exploitationduring the XIII Italian Expedition to Antarctica is given in thispaper. Romeo is the latest Unmanned Underwater Vehicledeveloped at C.N.R.-I.A.N. for marine science applications andresearch on intelligent vehicles. During the XIII ItalianExpedition to Antarctica (24 October 1997-24 February 1998)it has been exploited for collecting data about under-icebiological processes, testing under-ice performances of a set ofacoustic devices for autonomous navigation and guidance. andcollecting benthic data in a sea area free of ice.
