To improve the understanding of past and present environmental dynamics, both natural and human-induced, the Barcelona (Spain) and Venice (Italy) coastal areas were studied and compared. The research was aimed to the identification of the cause-and-effect relationships among sedimentological and geomorphological settings, sea and climatic conditions, and anthropogenic interventions, using a multidisciplinary approach.
