Abstract
(English)
Since 1975, ISMAR-CNR has been conducting research on the stock assessment of both sardine and anchovy for the central and northern Adriatic, by means of population dynamics methods. In this paper, we reported some of the results obtained from the analysis of possible relationships between the annual recruit-ment of sardine in the time interval 1975-2001 and Po river flow rate, as well as weather by means of the NAO index. Some comparisons with the results obtained previously for the anchovy stock were made. On the whole, the relationships with flow rate were weaker in the case of sardine. As regards sardine recruitment and NAO index, a positive correlation was found with the NAO index relative to autumnal months: further investigations could allow to assess if this link really exists and which mechanism underlies it.
