Abstract
(English)
We introduce an equivalent coercive formulation of the Stokes problem by taking advantage of the properties displayed by wavelets, relative to Sobolev space characterization, that allow to write down equivalent $H^{-1}(Omega)$ scalar products with the aid of such functions. The new stabilized formulation of the Stokes problem can be discretized by the Galerkin method using any approximation space (not necessarily of wavelet type). If a wavelet space is chosen, an optimal diagonal preconditioner exists.
